At a pop-up shop in a Liverpool office building, I met a lovely gentleman looking for a very special birthday gift for his wife. She had a deep love for crosses, and he wanted to commission something truly personal—a sterling silver cross.
We talked through the possibilities together: size, texture, and whether to create a matching set with earrings or perhaps even a bracelet. Back in my studio, I began shaping ideas, starting with a rough design in copper. I also shared a selection of texture samples so he could get a feel for the different finishes.
Once we had agreed on the size, shape, and texture, I carefully crafted the piece from sterling silver sheet. To bring it to life, I applied the chosen texture using a specialist texturing hammer, giving the cross a beautiful, tactile finish.
As this was a substantial piece, it needed the perfect chain to complement it. I sent over photographs of several options.
He chose the third, a stunning diamond-cut belcher chain—an excellent match.
With the cross complete, I went on to create a pair of matching earrings, transforming the commission into a cohesive and meaningful set.
