This commission began with an in-person meeting at a local market, where the client, a gentleman looking for a bold, everyday ring, was drawn to the weight and character of solid silver. We discussed his ideas there and then, exploring proportions, surface texture, and how the ring should feel on the hand. From that conversation, we agreed on a chunky band with strong visual texture and a clean, unfussy form.
Back in the workshop, I cut the silver to size and applied texture using a ball pein hammer, creating a surface that would scatter light and add depth while retaining a robust, masculine feel.
Once textured, the silver was carefully shaped and formed into the ring.
To enhance the way the piece interacts with light, I subtly domed the ring after forming, a final adjustment that softened the profile and brought the texture to life.
A thorough polish completed the process, balancing the brightness of the silver with the ruggedness of the hammered surface.
The finished ring is substantial, tactile, and distinctive—designed through direct conversation and made entirely by hand, from raw silver sheet to final polish.
